FROM MR. HUNT
|
|
It is crazy that the 3rd term has come to an end, and we only have one more term until summer break. For most of us, it is exciting that summer is close. Over the past couple of years, I have seen a trend with homework and attendance percentage going down as the temperatures rise. I would encourage you to continue to stress the importance of doing homework and being in school. This will help students prepare for the CRT's and continue to get good grades. Please review the letter sent last week. The teachers and I have come up with some specific tasks you can work on with your students to help prepare them for the CRT's that are listed there. Thank you for all you do to support your students.

ESPANOLANDIA RESOURCES NEEDED
|
|
Dear Parents:
On April 22, we will be hosting the third annual Espanolandia Celebration at Lincoln Academy.
We would like to present different activities related to the Spanish culture. It will include dancing, entertainment, food and any other event that promotes the culture. We want to invite parents to participate. We are in need of parents to help prepare the gym for the activity, serve food, clean, supervise, and translate.
Can you sing or dance to Spanish music? Do you know a person or group that can? Do you own a llama, a donkey or any other exotic animals such as chinchillas, guinea pigs, etc? Do you know anyone who does? Please call me at 801-756-2039 or email me at: arteta@lincoln-academy.org
Thank you,
Mr. Robert Arteta, Spanish Teacher

Jr. High Honors
Mr. Hunt would like to thank Corby Baldwin for his generous donation for our Junior High honor awards program. He says, “As a junior high team, my teachers and I wanted to create an environment that rewarded and encouraged high academic success. To do this we wanted to reward all students who had a 3.7 or above. Students with a GPA between 3.7 and 3.94 are recognized as Honor Roll students in an assembly and given a certificate and a candy bar. Those with a GPA between 3.95 and 4.0 are recognized as High Honor Roll students and given a certificate and candy bar. Additionally, all students with a 4.0 are invited to come to a catered lunch with me. We have seen the number of Honor Roll and 4.0 students rise since offering these rewards. 4.0 students rose from 33 in the first term to 40 in the second term. It is because of Corby Baldwin's generosity that we are able to honor these students and provide motivation for other students to achieve academic success.”

Mr. Thorson
Mr. Thorson is so appreciative of the money Jason and Amy Dahl of Incorporated Pro have donated to his class. He writes, “A few of the things I have purchased with this money are calculators with a calculator pouch holder. Students never seemed to bring their calculators on test days and this alleviates any student having troubles. The holder really helps me keep track of them as well and prevents students from walking off with them. Also I purchased a pull down grid to write graphs on. This saves tons of time during class and makes things look nicer. I had a pencil sharpener that would eat student’s pencils so I purchased a nice electric one that would work better for students.
For my homeroom (chess and strategy games) I have purchased some mathematical, strategy, and deductive reasoning games to give students productive things to do. Many of the students who had signed up for my chess room do not really want to play chess, so I invested in some other educational games that they can play.”
Mrs. Jackson
Mr. and Mrs. Wakeland are the business sponsors of our fifth grade class this year. Because of their generosity, our students have been able to have many enriching experiences. Some of these opportunities include: getting ice cream after the chemistry show on our BYU fieldtrip, going to the Space Center in Pleasant Grove, making Christmas gifts for our families, watching the BYU Shakespeare Troupe perform Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew,” and eating a scrumptious Renaissance Feast. Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Wakeland! -Mrs. Jackson
Miss Althoff
The Mighty Jungle (Miss Althoff's class), would like to thank our wonderful business sponsor The DeGroff Family. Thanks to their contribution, students have enjoyed additions to the classroom library. Our science has been enriched as students have been able to conduct science experiments with supplies purchased from classroom funds. Our most resent expenditure of funds was to purchase tickets to watch a classmate perform in the Nutcracker Ballet. What meaningful and memorable things these students have been able to be exposed to because of the generosity of a sponsor! THANK YOU!
-Miss Althoff and The Mighty Jungle Class
Mrs. Eau Claire
Mrs. Eau Claire's class is fortunate to have Brandt and Shirley Gibson sponsoring her classroom, from their business Mountain West Foot & Ankle Institute. The 4th grade is able to go on many field trips, like the Thanksgiving Point Museum of Ancient Life, This is the Place Heritage Park, and Camp Floyd. The Gibsons also make many art and science projects possible with their donation. Thank you,k Mountain West Foot & Ankle Institute!
