FROM MR. HUNT

Occasionally I'm assigned to go and be on an accreditation team at another school. I had the opportunity to do this just recently. I was reminded as I spent two days at another school how it is so great to be here at Lincoln. The parental support, level of student behavior and responsiveness, and the dedication and quality instruction of teachers is amazing at Lincoln. Some times it is easy to forget how green your own grass is until you spend some time on the other side. Thank you for everything you do to make Lincoln Academy a great place to be. Please take note of three upcoming events:

5th Grade Maturation Program- March 10th

Lincoln Academy will host our annual 5th grade Maturation Program on Thursday, March 10th, at 6:00 p.m. 6th grade students are invited to attend if they missed it or would like to review the information they covered last year. Students will have a permission slip that needs to be returned by Wednesday, March 9th, in order to attend.

No School on Professional Development Day - March 14th

There will be no school for students this day. Faculty and staff members will be meeting and get training to help improve instruction for your students.

$1 Free Dress Day - St. Patrick's Day - March 17th

On St. Patrick's Day, March 17th, we will be having a $1.00 free dress day to help support the school play. Students who donate a dollar can wear free dress. One exception will be made to the dress code: if students do not participate in the $1.00 free dress day, they can wear a small green sticker (the size of a quarter or smaller). All other dress code rules will be enforced for those not participating.

FAMILY SKATE NIGHT

Family Skate Night will be at Classic Skating in Orem on March 8 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. This is a FREE activity for families of Lincoln Academy students paid for by the Parent Council. Roller skates can be used free of charge; roller blades are available to rent. You can bring your own roller skates, scooters or roller blades. There will be meal offers of pizza and a drink or nachos and a drink for $2 that can be purchased there. No tickets are necessary; just bring your family and come enjoy an evening of skating and fun!

ACTS OF KINDNESS WEEK FOLLOW-UP

We collected almost $1,000 from all the fundraising activities during Acts of Kindness Week.  A big thank you to everyone who contributed!

CHARTER SCHOOLS SCIENCE FAIR RESULTS

Noah Cahoon has been invited to the Central Utah Science and Engineering Fair. Congratulations, Noah!

ELEMENTARY READING PROGRAMS

Jazz Reading Contest

We would like to congratulate all of the children who participated in the Jazz Reading Contest. Our school had great reading minute totals turned in. Our top reading minute class was Mr. Bingham's--nearly a hundred thousand minutes!! They have definitely earned a free dress day! We appreciate the parents' help with signing the minutes off and making time available for reading, the children for being so dedicated and the teachers for their support and help. This is a great event that strengthens our students' reading abilities with the extended time that it covers. Thanks for everyone's participation!

Seven Peaks Reading Program

March is the Seven Peak's Peak Reader program! One FREE day pass to Seven Peaks will be offered to each child in grades K-6. They will just need to read for 500 minutes in the month of March and turn in an official log to their teacher by March 31st! The log and rules sheet were given to your student on February 28th.

COME SEE "THE KING AND I"!!

This year's school musical is "The King and I", the story of an English governess who goes to Siam to teach the king's children about the modern world. Sixty-seven students will perform this enchanting classic under the direction of Ms. Smith and Mr. Hinton at the Pleasant Grove Junior High school auditorium at 7:00 pm on the evenings of March 30, March 31, April 1 and April 4. Please mark your calendar and plan to bring your family and friends to see this wonderful show! More info about ticket prices and availability will be coming soon.

$1 FREE DRESS DAYS IN MARCH

We are very excited about performing "The King and I" at an auditorium with stadium seating so everyone in the audience can better see the stage. To help with the production costs, two $1 Free Dress Days will be held during March: Thursday, the 17th (St. Patrick's Day) and Friday, the 25th. Please put those dates on your calendar and remind your students. Students can wear green on St. Patrick's day and be more casual the following Friday, and the school play will benefit as well!

"THE KING AND I" PROPS LIST

We're making a lot of progress on the props for the school play, but there are still some things we really need. Please check the list again, even if you have already, because some things have been changed. Also, if you still see listed something that you have already donated for the show, know that we need more than one of that item.

Please bring anything you've said you would donate to the school right away. The performers need to use these items while they're practicing to get used to working with them. Drop them off on the stage if they're large or put them in the box near the office if they're smaller. Don't forget to label your items with your name and phone number.  If you have any questions, please contact Shauna Lawrence shauna@ourletter.com or Eileen Johannesmeyer eileenj.email@gmail.com.

Thank you so much! We really appreciate all you're doing to make this a great show.

UPDATED FUN RUN INFO

The date of the Family Fun Run has been changed to Saturday, April 23 so that it will not be during Spring Break. The 1-mile run will start at 8:00 am and the 5K will start at 8:20 am. This has been a fun event for everyone who has participated the last two years. Registration will be $15 for Lincoln students and their family members through April 8. Registration forms will soon be available at the front office or online at the school website.

Student voting for the T-shirt design contest will be on Friday, March 4 during school hours. Parents who would like to help with the race can check the school website for our needs under the volunteer tab.

BUSINESS SPONSOR SPOTLIGHTS

Ms. Melinda Hunt is very excited about having an elementary music sponsor this year. She says, "I have purchased a keyboard which was greatly needed. I will be purchasing more music and music notation supplies in the near future. I want to thank my sponsors, Addie and Tate Wilson's grandpa and grandma at JAS, Inc., for being so generous and helping make this program successful."

Mrs. Packer's class is delighted to have Dan and Amy Knight as their classroom sponsors this year! She says, "Because of their generosity, we will be able to do many things. Our biggest excitement is our "Mrs. Packer's 50-Books Club". During the months of Sept. - March, we work really hard to read 50 take home readers. Each student that reaches that goal earns a 50-Books t-shirt with a bookworm on it. We culminate this activity by going to the SCERA Shell in March to see a play. This year the play is "No Dogs Allowed". We get to wear our t-shirts on this very special day! We also use our sponsor funds for our Christmas Program, and our visit to Thanksgiving Point's Animal/petting farm. We are so appreciative of our sponsors. We get to do a lot of interesting and fun activities thanks to their generosity! Thank you!"

EXPANDING YOUR HORIZONS WORKSHOPS ON SATURDAY

Each year UVU offers special workshops for 6th-12th grade female students. Forty-five career classes are offered to help girls understand what career opportunities are available in the Math, Science, and Technology fields. Several students who have attended these classes in the past felt that it was a very worthwhile experience. The cost is $25 and it is scheduled for Saturday, March 5th from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm. If you are interested, you can get more information by going to http://www.uvu.edu/equitycenter/horizons/index.html.
