FROM MR. HUNT

Parents:

We have had a fantastic first half of the year.  We are currently at midterm of the second term and the term ends on January 14th- just two weeks after we get back from Christmas break.  Please check now and take the opportunity to push your students to make up any late or missing work while they still can.

more

Tuesday, Dec 21st- Half day
School will be let out at 12:00.  It will also be a free dress day.  Students should not wear pajamas, and still be mindful of modest dress code principles. Because we are a part of the free and reduced school lunch program we will still be serving lunch.  Lunches will be as follows: 1st-3rd: 10:30    4th-6th:  11:00     7th-9th: 11:30.  Please make arrangements to be here promptly at 12:00.

Restaurant Fundraisers
Thank you for your participation in our recent fundraisers.  They have been very successful!  We were able to raise over $520 through the Pizza Pie Café, and we raised over $270 at Chick-fil-A.  We have a desire to increase the technology in each classroom.  We have applied for over $100,000 in grants and will be notified of the results shortly.  In the meantime, we are setting aside this money from restaurant fundraisers to increase the technology in the classrooms.

Holiday Reading
I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday Season and break from school.  Often teachers notice a difference in fluency right after the holidays.  Please set just a little time aside to have your children read or to read to your children.  Consistent daily practice will maintain and increase fluency.
Food Drive Free Dress
Because of your support of the Student Council and Parent Council food drive, the school earned a free dress day.  The Student Council has chosen to have this on the last day of the term- January 14th.

ENROLLMENT COMMITTEE

Re-enrollment for the 2011-2012 school year will be held in the school's library on January 12th and 13th.  ALL FAMILIES MUST RE-ENROLL DURING THIS TIME.

more

The enrollment committee will be in the library from 7:30am until 4:00pm.  Please plan on an average of 45 minutes to complete the process to include our annual survey which is crucial to the success of Lincoln Academy.  Your responses on this survey help enable Lincoln to provide the best possible educational experience for your students. If at least 85% of our families complete the survey, the students will earn a free dress day and we will also hold a drawing.  Your registration form will come home with your student the week prior to re-enrollment.  Please make sure to include any siblings on the bottom portion of this form even if they are already on the waiting list.

We request 40 volunteer hours per family per year and that at least 25 hours be completed by re-enrollment.  Continued sibling preference is dependent upon completion of volunteer hours.  For those families who attended Lincoln for the 2009-2010 school year, volunteer hours must be completed for that year also.

We look forward to seeing each of our great families at Re-enrollment.  Thank you.

FOOD DRIVE RESULTS

We earned 6,234 points in the food drive (food items were worth 1 point and coats 25 points). Adding the generous number of perishable food items donated on the last day of the drive, the students earned a free dress day which will be on January 14th. A big thank you to those who donated and the members of the Student Council and Parent Council who worked hard to make this happen!

JR. HIGH END-OF-TERM LUAU

The Junior High end-of-term party will be a luau afterschool on January 14th from 2:45 to 4:00. The party is for current Lincoln junior high students only. Please plan on picking your students up promptly at 4:00.

BUSINESS SPONSOR SPOTLIGHTS

We appreciate all the wonderful families and businesses that are sponsoring classes here at Lincoln.  This month we're spotlighting the following:

more

From Mrs. DeOliveira (1st grade):
Mrs. DeOliveira writes, "It has been such a pleasure to have the Fentons as our sponsor this year. Due to their generosity, we were able to purchase supplies for our hands-on science experiments. We have also made CAPS to help us learn about sentence writing. Also, we will be able to attend the Nutcracker Ballet with the funds that we have received.  We appreciate them and their kindness. Thank you, Fentons!"

From Miss Kelly and her 4th graders:
Miss Kelly thanks the Chris and Jennifer Wakeland Family for making possible wonderful opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.  Some examples of how our sponsor funds improve the classroom environment are: the funds afford us the resources needed to purchases materials for science experiments, equipment for mathematical exploration and activities, and educational games used to reinforce core concepts in various subject areas.  Outside of the classroom, we can afford to pay the fees for experts to come in and talk to the class about specific subjects, as well as pay for students to go on field trips and experience the hands-on learning that is sometimes difficult to acquire through lectures only.

On a much smaller scale, some of our funds are used to assist with class store (which is based on a ticketing system), or to supplement a class party.  Primary spending goes toward creating a better learning environment in order to facilitate lasting learning outcomes.  For these endorsements we give our sincere heartfelt gratitude to the Chris and Jennifer Wakeland family.

The Boyds’ Donation
This year the school received a large donation of supplies and equipment for the Cricut Machine from the Boyds. They donated a large variety of cartridges that are frequently used by the teachers. They also donated markers, scissors, and software that enhance creativity.  We are so lucky to have such a generous donation from the Boyds.  We appreciate them and their willingness to help our school.

Mr. Couch (Jr. High Math)
The math classes for Mr. Couch would like to thank Reed and Hilary Miner for their generous financial contribution to improve the learning environment of the classroom. With the money given to us, I was able to purchase much-needed solar calculators for the kids. These calculators have been very beneficial to all the students, especially during test time. These calculators will further the enhancement of learning math through technology which, in turn, will better prepare the students for the future. The students and I would like to give a big thank-you to our sponsor, Mr. and Mrs. Reed and Hilary Miner.

The following is a correction to a spotlight published in the last newsletter:
Mrs. Taylor's Elementary Reading Program Sponsor is Sizzler.  We would like to thank Gary Shatswell and Sizzling Platter for their generous sponsorship. Mike and Laura Rowbury, with R&R Realty are one of our sponsors for our K-6 Reading Program.
