FROM MR. HUNT

Dear Parents:

Next week is re-enrollment. As a part of this process, you will be asked to fill out a survey about the school. We recognize this takes some time to complete. Thank you in advance for taking the time to thoughtfully respond and let us know what we are doing well and how we can better serve your students. The feedback we receive is invaluable.

Parent/Administration Meeting

We will be holding our next Parent/Administration informational meeting on January 21st at 8:00 in the library.  We will be discussing what our plans are for school improvement as well as a program our teachers have been involved in called Assessment to Achievement.

Fight the New Drug Assembly

On February 3rd at 9:00, Lincoln will be hosting "Fight the New Drug."  Fight the New Drug is a great presentation for our 6th-9th graders.  This presentation will talk about the effects of pornography on individuals.  They came two years ago to present and did a fantastic job.  We are excited to have them returning.  We will be sending more information home as the date comes closer- however, if you would like to learn more, you can visit their website: http://www.fightthenewdrug.org/

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Please put February 10th and 11th on your calendar for Parent-Teacher Conferences. We will hold these meetings from 3:00-8:00 on Wednesday for elementary and junior high and 3:00-6:00 on Thursday for just the elementary.

Elementary parents, your teacher will be providing information on how to sign up electronically to meet with them.

Junior high parents, we will be meeting in the junior high gym- please plan on a five-minute conference or less. If your concerns are going to take longer than five minutes, please make an appointment to meet with the teacher at a different time.

Book Fair

Our book fair will be held during Parent-Teacher Conferences.

GET VOLUNTEER HOURS FOR PROMOTING LINCOLN

You can get volunteer hours by posting messages about Lincoln and open enrollment on social media sites or by emailing friends. Parents get 1 hour for each site and 1 hour for every 5 friends they email with children eligible to attend Lincoln.

You could edit the following or post something similar:

“My children attend Lincoln Academy. Lincoln Academy has certified teachers, a rigorous curriculum, positive environment, smaller classes, and prepares students well for high school.

We have had a great experience having our children attend Lincoln. Other parents have shared their opinions and experiences in a short video clip located at:

http://youtu.be/uZeEFU2nZUA

If you would like to find out more about Lincoln, you can tour the school on Tuesdays at 4:00 or Wednesdays at 10:00. Additionally, you can attend an open house on Thursday, February 4th from 6:00-8:00."

PARENT COUNCIL NEWS

Dear Lincoln Families,

We are so excited to give you a fundraising update! For those new to Lincoln, the Parent Council has asked for a mobile technology donation from every family of $35. We would love to be able to purchase a chrome book cart for our students to benefit from. We are over halfway there, and have so generously been given $4,554 from our Lincoln families. For this we are so grateful! If $35 is not in your budget, please know that every dollar counts and any donations will be greatly appreciated. If you can double your donation, we are again very grateful. Donations can be turned in at the financial office anytime. We are not very far off from our $7500 goal. We can do it!!

This month we have some great things going on, starting with the Jazz Reading Program. There are some very fun things planned for this. The Box Tops Store is returning in January as well. Thank you so much for supporting these fun programs for your kids!

As January is the month of setting resolutions, I leave you with this quote from our school namesake.

"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other."  -Abraham Lincoln

JAZZ READING

The Jazz Reading Contest begins this weekend! A new reading log will be coming home each week for your student to keep track of their minutes on. Just for turning in the log with your signature, they will be rewarded with things such as movie passes and discounts at Kangaroo Zoo. Please help us get these in every week so your child is not missing out and we can keep track of how much they have read. We need you! The first log is due NEXT TUESDAY, January 19th.

Our school goal is 1,000,000 minutes!

more

Please see the note that is coming home for the minute goals per grade. We’re ready to help your child reach their goal! We will be having daily read-a-thons from 7:30 -8 am before school. This is a fantastic way for your child to earn minutes! Take them to school a little early so they can benefit. We will also be having a read-a-thon Friday, February 5th from 1-2:30. Keep in mind that reading to your child counts as well! Please record those minutes.

Raffle Prizes!!!

Thanks to donations from community sponsors, we have some really great prizes for your child. They will be entered in the raffle just by reaching their grade level goal.  Extra raffle tickets will be awarded for each hour they read above their goal.  It significantly increases their odds to win, so please take advantage!

Raffle tickets will be filled out by the students and turned in to the Jazz Reading Box in the office.  Some of the prizes include:

-Tickets to a Jazz game

-Gift Cards

-A giant 1,000 piece LEGO Ninjago set donated by Barnes and Noble

-Bowling passes

-Space Academy flight training time

-And more! Much, much more!

Rewards:

All students that participate will receive prizes.  Raffle winners will be announced and awarded each week throughout the 4-week contest with grand prizes going out the last week.

Every class that reaches their grade level goal will be rewarded with a free dress day.  The class that exceeds their goal by the greatest percentage will be awarded a class party!  It’s a team effort!

As a school, if we surpass last year’s total of nearly 850,000 minutes and reach 900,000 minutes the whole school will earn a free dress day.  If the school reaches our goal of One Million Minutes it’s an (get this!) ENTIRE WEEK OF FREE DRESS!!!

The Grand Prize:

If we place in the top ten schools in the great state of Utah, (and we have won 4 years in a row) than we will be visited by a Utah Jazz Player, and the whole school gets ice cream!  Let’s do it again Lincoln!!  Let’s aim high and start reading!

Read, read, read and record those minutes!
