FROM MR. HUNT

Dear Parents:

It is now October. It is amazing how time flies. Thank you for all that you have done to support the school and your students. Thanks for donating supplies to our classes, supplies for your children, donating to the parent council, driving on field trips, coming to parent/teacher conference, and signing up to help in the classroom. Your efforts help make our school better and afford a better education for your student. Thank you for everything! I am confident that as educators, parents and students work together, the quality of education increases.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Thank you to all parents who came to parent/teacher conferences. There was a great turn-out in the elementary and a solid one for the Junior High. If you missed parent/teacher conferences, you can still set up an appointment to meet with your student's teacher or communicate by email.

Halloween

Lincoln Academy will celebrate Halloween on Friday October 30th. I know that many are deciding on Halloween costumes already. Students are allowed to wear their costumes to school at Lincoln Academy. However, there are no masks allowed. Additionally we allow no weapons, cross-dressing or "blood" of any kind. The costumes must also be modest and not offend any group of people. Staff members need to be able to identify students in costume.

The Elementary will hold a Halloween parade at 2:00 on Friday October 30th. Parents are invited to view the parade in the elementary gym.

Informational Parent/Admin Meetings

Mrs. Merrill and I will be holding meetings for parents to learn more about different aspects of the school. These meetings are open for all parents and where applicable will be recorded and made available online. Meetings will be held in the library.

This year the following meetings will take place:

Oct. 23, 2015 8:00- CANVAS and ASPIRE as Parent-Teachers Communication tools.  Learn how to use parent accounts in both Canvas and Aspire to communicate with teachers and understand your student grades.

Nov. 12, 2015 8:00- Assessments at Lincoln. Learn more about the types of assessments Lincoln uses and what you can learn about your students from these assessments.

Jan. 21, 2015 8:00- School Improvement and Goals Moving Forward. Learn what Lincoln is doing to improve student learning.

Feb. 26, 2015 8:00- Q&A with Admin.  Parents will have the opportunity on the yearly survey to ask questions that the administration will address at this meeting.

PARENT COUNCIL NEWS

Thank you so much to everyone who came and supported our Movie Night last month. It was a fun evening, and we hope everyone had a great time with family and friends. Thanks to all those who volunteered and helped clean up after. Many hands made light work!! Thanks so much!!

Please take note of a letter coming home with your student/s. We are still actively pursuing donations to support our goal to purchase mobile technology. The letter coming home should answer any questions you may have about this fundraiser. To those who have already donated, we THANK YOU. You are welcome to kindly disregard the letter.

Being a part of Lincoln Academy has been a great experience for my family, and I want to thank all those who volunteer and help at the school. There are so many.I couldn't even begin to list everyone. You are amazing, and your efforts truly make our school a better place. I would like to leave you with a quote from Helen Keller "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much".

BOX TOPS NEWS

It's Box Tops for Education time!!!

Did you know that the monies earned from those little Box Tops are used to purchase playground equipment?

This year we are opening a Box Tops store.  Everything in the store will be purchased with Box Tops.  However, we need your support in stocking our store shelves.  Instead of taking the gently used toys and trinkets your children are finished with to Deseret Industries, bring them to the school office to be resold in our Box Tops store.

more

The types of things we are looking for are listed below but please use your imagination to make this the best store for your children to shop at.

Games

Books

Toys

Stuffed Animals

Individually Wrapped Candy and Food Items

Jewelry

Electronics

All items must be in good, working condition.  We want to give the students a chance to do some Christmas shopping and make this a fun and exciting experience.  Please donate on a continuous basis since our store will be open once a month all year long.  Our first store date will be at the end of October, so get those closets cleaned out and stock our store shelves!

RESTAURANT FUND RAISING

We are attending Panda Express in Pleasant Grove on Tuesday, October. 20th (in Macey's parking lot). Flyers will be coming home that day.  Bring in the flyer, and Lincoln Academy gets 20% of your bill!

HEALTH WEEK COMING SOON

Heath Week Prize Donations Needed!

Our Fall Health Week is coming up soon! In order to inspire our students to keep healthy habits that week (and beyond!), we are in need of some cool prize donations.  If you have a connection or just want to donate something, please contact Rachel Pierce: rachelwhitepierce@gmail.com.

more

Ideas include but are definitely not limited to: coupons or gift certificates to healthier restaurants (Roxberry, Subway, Chick-fil-A), or activity centers (Lowe's, Momentum, Classic Fun Center). Other ideas might include: new, unused sports or camping equipment, electronics related to health like Fit Bit (wouldn't that be a cool prize?!), water bottles, or healthy non-perishable food (Gatorade, Clif Bars, sunflower seeds, trail mix).

If you can donate any of these kinds of items, it would be SO appreciated!

Health Week is November 9-13!

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We need five more volunteers to teach Jr. Achievement. You would teach 5 lessons between now and spring break, coordinating lesson times with the classroom teacher.

Please contact me if you are willing to help:

Ashlee Macdonald ashleemacdonald@gmail.com.

TEACHER APPRECIATION

Thinking ahead....

The teacher appreciation committee is already planning for teacher appreciation week in March.  We would appreciate it if each junior high family would donate $5 for gifts for the junior high teachers.  Donations can be accepted at the front desk between now and October 30th.

ALSO: If there are any parents or family members out there who are massage therapists that would be interested in earning volunteer hours by providing chair massages for the staff during teacher appreciation week (March 24th), please contact Jennifer Parry at bluejenmom@gmail.com. In addition to parents, massage therapists can be an uncle, in-law, or grandparent. Their donated hours can count toward your family’s volunteer hours for the year.

Thank you!

LINCOLN ACADEMY PARENTS GROUP ON FACEBOOK

Last year one of our parents set up a parent group page on Facebook. The purpose of this site is to provide parents with a place to ask general questions, set up car pools, arrange clothing swaps, etc.

You can access that site by clicking on this link:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/lincolnacademy/

Please note: This is a moderated site. Any comments of a political nature will not be posted. This is also not the place to post any endorsements of private businesses or programs. Finally, this is not the place to air grievances about Lincoln, its staff, or teachers.

Please help us keep this page as it was intended to be…a friendly, helpful place for parents to communicate with one another.

VOLUNTEERING AT LINCOLN

Here are some of the volunteer opportunities that we need to fill right now.  You can sign up for any of them by contacting the appropriate committee chair:

  2. Massage Therapists: bluejenmom@gmail.com
  3. Drivers for Super I-Excel: 5littlemonkeys@gmail.com
more

Parent volunteers are an important part of the success of Lincoln Academy and are very much appreciated!

- To find volunteer opportunities, please visit Lincoln Academy's website, click on the tab at the top of the home page that says "Volunteer", and then click the "I Can Help!" button associated with the position(s) you would like to volunteer for. An email will be sent to Mrs. Kinkade who will either contact you or the person who is in charge of the volunteer need will contact you.

It's really important to our opportunities for grants and other funds that we record our volunteer hours.

- To record your volunteer hours, click the [Log On] on the opportunities page in the upper right corner. Click "Register" to set up your account. Complete the account information and click "Register".

You will receive an email that your account has been registered. Once the email is received by you, you may go back to the [Log On] and proceed to log your volunteer hours.

EMAIL YOUR REPORT CARDS TO THOMPSON ORTHODONTICS

Report cards will be coming home later this month, and Thompson Orthodontics will pay our school $1 for every A our students receive! All you have to do is email a copy of your child's report card to thompsonreportcards@gmail.com! It's really easy and can be done by simply taking a picture of the report card with your phone and emailing it in. You don't have to be a patient of Dr. Thompson's to participate. Please take a minute to do this and earn more money for the school!

DOLLAR DRESS DAYS

The Parent Council hosts Dollar Dress Days on the first Wednesday of each month. Students bring a dollar for the option to wear free dress. (Appropriate free dress can be found at the end of the uniform policy on the school website.) This free dress day is optional. Students are encouraged to earn their own dollar to pay for their free dress option.

LINCOLN SPIRIT WEAR

If you are in need of Lincoln T-shirts or hoodies, please contact Carol Bailey at 801-636-4623 or casbailey@msn.com. She has a limited number of shirts and hoodies left over. FYI - The T-shirts can be worn every Friday and navy hoodies are allowed to be worn in class every day.
