FROM MR. HUNT

We have had a great start to the year. Thank you for your patience during carpool. Things are improving and running very smoothly now. Thank you for your efforts to help us.

I've spent a good amount of time in classes so far. I've seen great students and fantastic teachers. The teachers I've watched are hard working. They care about students and are delivering engaging content to your children. I enjoy being able to visit classrooms regularly to see what students are working on.

As you've seen, we still have limited openings in 1st and 6th-9th grades. If you know someone who might be interested please let them know.

There are a couple of items I'd like you to get on your calendar:

more

Parent Teacher Conference

September 15th; 3:00-8:00

September 16th; 3:00-6:00

Elementary Parents- Sign up in the office to visit with your teacher on these nights. Sign-ups will be available starting September 8th in the front office.

Junior High Parents- All teachers will be available in the Junior High Gym. Make sure you bring a list of your student's teachers, and then you can choose which order you would like to see them.  Please understand that parent teacher conferences are for short visits. These visits should last 5 minutes or less. If you have significant concerns, please schedule an appointment at another time.

Patriot Day- September 11th

It has been a tradition at Lincoln Academy for us to wear best dress on September 11th. Most boys come in a shirt and tie, and girls come in a skirt or dress. Over the years, our focus has changed from those who died on September 11th, to those who have given their lives to preserve our freedom throughout history. Your student may choose to dress up or wear a school uniform on this day.

Please Also Note:

School Access

If you want to enter the school after school begins, you need to come through the front doors. Other doors are locked during school hours. Thanks for helping us keep your children safe.

Sincerely,

Mr. Hunt

PARENT COUNCIL UPDATE

Welcome back to school! We are looking forward to a new and exciting year. Our Parent Council is a group of dedicated parents, working together to support our wonderful teachers and staff to make Lincoln Academy the best school around. One of our main goals on the Parent Council is to raise funds that go directly toward providing needed items at the school.

Last year we were able to raise funds for a new, larger marquee that will be installed at the school. This year our focus will be on mobile technology. We are hoping to raise enough to purchase a chrome book or iPad cart for classroom use. Instead of having multiple fundraising events throughout the school year, we ask each family to make a one-time donation of $35 to the Parent Council.

more

Due to the overwhelmingly positive response we received last year, we are again asking for a one-time donation this year. The suggested donation per family is $35. If you are able to donate more, we welcome your generosity. If you cannot give that much at this time, we would appreciate any help you can give. We can’t accomplish our goal without you, so THANK YOU for your support.

The Parent Council will have a fund raising table set up during our school movie night on September 18th where we will collect your cash or check donations. In a few weeks, we will also be sending home a letter and envelope addressed to Lincoln, so you can put your donation in the envelope and drop it in the mail. You may also drop your donation off at the front desk. Please make sure it's labeled for the Parent Council.

We thank you for your support and look forward to a great year at Lincoln Academy! If you have any questions or you are interested in helping with the Parent Council this year, please contact us.

2016 BOX TOPS DRIVE

Dear Lincoln Families:

We hope you have been saving your Box Tops for Education all summer long. Keep cutting and saving because the fun for the new school year is about to begin! Soon we will be letting you know when and where to turn those Box Tops in. In the meantime, we are looking for donations of usable items such as toys or trinkets you might be sending to Deseret Industries or Good Will. These items will be used for the Box Top program. Please set these items aside and we will let you know where they can be turned in.

RETAIL FUNDRAISING

Welcome back to school! If you haven't done so, please go online and link your Smith's card, Target Red Card, Ridley's card, Macey's card, and Amazon Smile account with Lincoln Academy. Remember...you have to link your Smith's card every year, so if you haven't done that in a while, please do it again. Each of these businesses will send a small percentage of your purchase dollars to Lincoln Academy. This is an easy way to bring in money to the school!

Please note that we have a link to Amazon Smile on the Lincoln Web Page. You have to make purchase through Amazon Smile rather than the regular website for your purchases to be linked to Lincoln’s Retail Fundraising. Anything you put in your cart or on your wish list can be accessed from both sites. Just make sure you are on the Smile site before you click PURCHASE.

PARENT PAGE ON FACEBOOK

Last year one of our parents set up a parent group page on Facebook. The purpose of this site is to provide parents with a place to ask general questions, set up car pools, arrange clothing swaps, etc.

You can access that site by clicking on this link:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/lincolnacademy/

Please note: This is a moderated site. Any comments of a political nature will not be posted. This is also not the place to post any endorsements of private businesses or programs. Finally, this is not the place to air grievances about Lincoln, its staff, or teachers.

Please help us keep this page as it was intended to be…a friendly, helpful place for parents to communicate with one another.

- To find volunteer opportunities, please visit Lincoln Academy's website, click on the tab at the top of the home page that says "Volunteer", and then click the "I Can Help!" button associated with the position(s) you would like to volunteer for. An email will be sent to Mrs. Kinkade who will either contact you or the person who is in charge of the volunteer need will contact you.

It's really important to our opportunities for grants and other funds that we record our volunteer hours.

- To record your volunteer hours, click the [Log On] on the opportunities page in the upper right corner. Click "Register" to set up your account. Complete the account information and click "Register".

You will receive an email that your account has been registered. Once the email is received by you, you may go back to the [Log On] and proceed to log your volunteer hours.

DOLLAR DRESS DAYS

The Parent Council hosts Dollar Dress Days on the first Wednesday of each month. Students bring a dollar for the option to wear free dress. (Appropriate free dress can be found at the end of the uniform policy on the school website.) This free dress day is optional. Students are encouraged to earn their own dollar to pay for their free dress option.
