FROM MR. HUNT
|
|
Parents- Thank you for everything you do. We are able to offer so much more to your students because of your help. I have just a few informational items for you.
LINCOLN MALL
We have several parents who have been generous enough to donate money back to the school on product sales. If you normally purchase items from vendors like Alison's Pantry, Scentsy, Mary Kay, and Pampered Chef, check out our Lincoln Mall link under the parent and student info section on the school website. We have these vendors and others listed. Each will donate a percentage of their sales back to Lincoln Academy.

Restaurant Fundraiser
Thanks to everyone who came out to our first Lincoln Restaurant Night Fundraiser. It was so fun to see Lincoln friends! The Pizza Pie Cafe gave us $520 - 25% of the sales. Thanks to all of you! Our Restaurant Night Fundraisers will always be on the first Tuesday of each month. Our next one is Tuesday, December 7th. We're going to the new Chick-Fil-A in American Fork this time (near Kohl's). We'll get 20% of sales from 5pm until close that day for anyone who brings in the flyer, or even mentions Lincoln Academy. We're having a competition between classes; the class with the most attending the fundraiser gets a free dress day! So mark your calendars now and look for the Chick-Fil-A cow at school!
Winter
Please remember to send your students with appropriate clothing so they can go out to recess. Also remind your students that washing their hands frequently will help prevent illness and that throwing snowballs is prohibited at school. We will continue to try and remind your students as well.

more
Preparation for the Geography Bee
- Get the Necessary Tools: A good, up-to-date world map, atlas, and geography reference book are your best study tools, along with blank outline maps (http://www.nationalgeographic.com/xpeditions/atlas/) with which to practice locating places.
- Learn Map Terminology: Understanding what you're looking at and correctly reading labels and coordinates on a map are essential.
- Understand the Interconnectedness of Geography: Subdivisions of geography, such as physical features, climate, and culture, are all influenced by each other. Once you understand this, it will be easier to categorize and remember information about countries and regions.
- Follow Current Events: News items regarding political upheavals, international agreements, and discoveries are fair game for Bee questions, so make sure you are an informed citizen of the world. See the National Geographic News (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/) site for recent stories.
- Analyze the Questions: Visit the National Geographic Sample Questions (http://www.nationalgeographic.com/sample_questions/) page to see the types of questions asked in the Bee and to learn how you can look for clues within the questions to help you figure out the right answers.
- Keep Geography Fun: There are many games you can play to help study for the Bee. Check out the GeoBee Challenge (http://www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee/today.html#/start) , with ten new questions each day, and GeoSpy (http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/kids/games/geographygames/geospy/) , to test your map skills.

BUSINESS SPONSOR SPOTLIGHTS
|
|
From Mr. Goodey, Mrs. Cheney and their great 5th graders:
Our sponsors this year are Beverly and Muriel Petermann and Mike and Laura Rowbury of R & R Realty.
more
We are so appreciative of their generosity. So far, we have used the money to pay our share of the fee for the Shakespeare production, bought ice cream on the BYU field trip, purchased some needed shelves for storage in the room and also some science equipment. We will be going on a "space mission" also thanks to our sponsors.
The sponsors make possible some great things for kids that would not be possible in these days when budget cuts are the norm. Thanks a gazillion.
From Mrs. Taylor, Reading Specialist:
I can't begin to say how thankful I am for Gary at Sizzler's and Mike and Laura Rowbury of R & R Realty. for donating to the reading program at Lincoln. I have been able to purchase beginning readers from Scholastic Readers and a Complete Fundamental Program with the right to copy the little books and send home. It is so wonderful to know that my students can build their own library and read their books over and over again. One of my students said, "Wow, I'm going to have the biggest library ever!"
Thank you so much!
