FROM MR. HUNT

Parents:

Thank you for your help and support as the school year began.  We have experienced some growing pains, made some good adjustments, and hopefully are doing better now than we were when school began.

It has been a great experience for me to be able to walk around, meet new students, and spend some time in classrooms.  I've been impressed with the students and can tell that they come from good families with supportive parents.  I've also been impressed with the teachers of your students.  We have a fantastic faculty here to meet the needs of each of your students. I know they care about your students and want to help them.  Please email them and let them know if they can help in any way.

There are a couple of items I'd like you to get on your calendar:

more

Parent Teacher Conference

September 16th; 3:00-8:00
September 17th; 3:00-6:00

Elementary Parents- Sign up in the office to visit with your teacher on these nights.  Sign-ups will be available starting September 8th in the front office.

Junior High Parents- All teachers will be available in the Junior High Gym.  Make sure you bring a list of your student's teachers and then you can choose which order you would like to see them.  Please understand that parent teacher conferences are for short visits.  These visits should last 5 minutes or less.  If you have significant concerns please schedule an appointment at another time.

Patriot Day- September 11th

It has been a tradition at Lincoln Academy for us to wear best dress on September 11th. Most boys come in a shirt and tie and girls come in a skirt or dress. Over the years our focus has changed from those who died on September 11th, to those who have given their lives to preserve our freedom throughout history.  Your student may choose to dress up or wear a school uniform on this day.

School Access

If you want to enter the school after school begins, you need to come through the front doors.  Other doors are locked during school hours.

Thanks for your support!
Jake Hunt

PARENT COUNCIL NEWS

Welcome back to school!  We are looking forward to a new and exciting year.  Our Parent Council is a group of dedicated parents, working together to support our wonderful teachers and staff to make Lincoln Academy the best school around.  One of our main goals on the Parent Council is to raise funds that go directly toward providing needed items at the school.

Last year we tried something new for our fundraising efforts.  Instead of having multiple fundraising events throughout the school year, we asked each family to make a one-time donation of $35 to the Parent Council.  Due to the overwhelmingly positive response we received last year, we are again asking for a one-time donation this year. The suggested donation per family is $35.  If you are able to donate more, we welcome your generosity. If you cannot give that much at this time, we would appreciate any help you can give.

more

The money raised this year will be used to purchase a new marquee for the front of the junior high building so everyone will know what is going on at the school.  The money will also help run the programs that Parent Council oversees - reading, health week, Inspirations, emergency preparedness, and teacher appreciation.

Please help us make Lincoln even better this year by supporting this Parent Council fundraiser.  The Parent Council will have a table set up at our school movie night on September 26 where we will collect cash, checks, or credit card payments (credit cards will be charged a 3% convenience charge).  We will also be sending home a letter and envelope addressed to Lincoln in a few weeks so you can put your money in the envelope and drop it in the mail.  You may also drop your donation off at the front desk at any time, please just make sure they know it is for the Parent Council.

We thank you for your support and look forward to a great year at Lincoln Academy!  If you have any questions or you are interested in helping with the Parent Council this year, please contact us.

RESTAURANT FUNDRAISER

We are heading to Pizza Pie Cafe in Highland for September's restaurant fundraiser!  Our favorite!  Your child should have come home Monday with the fundraiser cards.  Please bring the cards with you to the restaurant anytime Monday-Thursday (Sept. 8-13) and they'll give Lincoln 25% of your bill!

For something different, the restaurant is setting aside Tuesday night as a special Lincoln Academy night from 5-8pm.

We thought it'd be fun to go when we can see lots of Lincoln friends!  But if that time doesn't work for you, come anytime for lunch, after-school snack, or dinner.  It's just a special time when they've scheduled extra workers just for us!

Be sure to fill out your teacher's name on the fundraiser paper, too! Let's see which class gets the most participation and wins a free dress day!

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS NEEDS

Parents,

Each year at Lincoln we provide all classrooms with emergency supplies. We include Nature Valley Oats 'N Honey granola bars for each student as an emergency food supply.

more

If your child has allergies to any of the following: soy, peanuts, almonds or pecans you will need to provide an alternative snack for their emergency food supply.  If your child is a diabetic please include some sugar-free candy in their Ziploc as well.  The emergency kits have a small supply of hard candy for the teachers to distribute, and if your child cannot have any of this candy you will want to supply some for them.

Elementary students:  Please pack 2 small snack items in a single Ziploc sandwich or quart size bag, with the child's name and the words "Emergency Preparedness" on it and deliver it to their teacher.

Jr. High students:  Please pack 8 snacks bags, 7 if your child has released time. 2 small snack items in each of the 8/7 Ziploc sandwich or quart size bags, with the child's name and the words "Emergency Preparedness" on them and deliver them to each of their teachers. Mid year they will be reminded to switch their snack bags to their new classes.

Thank you,
Staci Hardy

VOLUNTEERING AT LINCOLN

Parent volunteers are an important part of the success of Lincoln Academy and are very much appreciated!

It's really important to our opportunities for grants and other funds that we record our volunteer hours.

Here is how you can get started...

more

- To find volunteer opportunities, please visit Lincoln Academy's website, click on the tab at the top of the home page that says "Volunteer", and then click the "I Can Help!" button associated with the position(s) you would like to volunteer for. An email will be sent to Mrs. Kinkade who will either contact you or the person who is in charge of the volunteer need will contact you.

- To record your volunteer hours, click the [Log On] on the opportunities page in the upper right corner.  Click "Register" to set up your account.  Complete the account information and click "Register".

You will receive an email that your account has been registered. Once the email is received by you, you may go back to the [Log On] and proceed to log your volunteer hours.

Here are some of the volunteer opportunities that we need to fill right now:

Volunteer Coordinator- The coordinator would work with the front office on publicizing and coordinating volunteer opportunities for all PC events and for the school. Contact Jennifer Wilson at jenniferwilson77@yahoo.com or (801)492-9410.

Interior Design Committee- The interior designer responsible for designing and decorating the new junior high building has agreed to help us update and improve the elementary school's interior appearance.  We are looking for committee members to help in this process.  Individuals with experience are encouraged to volunteer as well as individuals who want to learn a little more.  Lincoln is presenting an opportunity for you to leave your legacy as you help update and improve the elementary school's interior appearance.  Committee members will be assigned areas within the school and work as a team with the interior designer to improve those areas.  If you are interested, you will want to sign up for this limited opportunity as soon as possible.  If you have any questions concerning this opportunity contact the front office. To volunteer visit the Lincoln Academy volunteer site and sign up.  As with all volunteer opportunities at Lincoln, hours on this committee will count towards your family’s yearly contribution.

Renaissance Fair- Volunteers needed for Utah Renaissance Faire at Thanksgiving Point! Lincoln Academy has been invited to participate at the Utah Renaissance Faire in September. Adult volunteers are needed to help assemble the village on September 25th in the afternoon. Please bring a cordless drill if you have one. Volunteers are also needed Friday Sept 26th and Saturday Sept 27th to help supervise the student village. Please contact Erin Smith (smith@lincoln-academy.org) with any questions.
