FROM MR. HUNT

Dear Parents:

Construction Update

As you can see, we are making excellent progress on our new building.  We are excited to see the walls starting to go up.  It is fun to see the progress each day.  We are still on schedule for completion on August 11th.  We appreciate your patience as we work through this process.  Carpool has been very smooth, and we thank you for your flexibility as we change.  We are excited about the opportunities this project this will bring for all students.

Testing

Remember SAGE testing is ongoing through May 16th.  Please make sure your students are getting appropriate rest and a good breakfast the morning they are testing.  We appreciate your support.

Last Day of School

Our last day of school will be May 23rd.  It is a free dress day. Students will be dismissed at 11:00 a.m.

Thank you for your continued support.  We have made some great academic progress with our students this year.  This wouldn't be happening without your support.  We are lucky to have such great parents and families.

Jake Hunt, Principal

PARENT COUNCIL FOR NEXT YEAR

We're excited to be planning already for next school year. To be prepared, we need dedicated parents to join us on Parent Council! Parent Council (PC) is an organization that supports teachers and staff and also raises money for needed items at school.  Some of the things we do on PC are fundraising, school activities, Jazz reading, I-excel, the science fair, Junior Achievement, Inspirations, health week, teacher appreciation, coordinating room moms, emergency preparedness, and Box Tops. This is a fun way to get your 40 volunteer hours in next year. We would love to have you join us in helping to make next year a great year for our children! If you're interested in being a member of PC, please e-mail Jen Wilson at jenniferwilson77@yahoo.com or call at (801) 492-9410.

HEALTH WEEK

Health Week is April 14-18, right after Spring Break.  On Monday, kids will come home with a challenge card that they can have their parents sign to earn points through the week by being active and healthy at home.  At school, kids can earn points by participating in lunch time challenges.  There will be an assembly on internet safety and a visit from the Highway Patrol Buckle Up program on Wednesday.

EMERGENCY PREP UPDATE

We are so grateful for all of contributions to the emergency preparedness program this year!  These donations helped supply necessary items for all of the students at Lincoln Academy.  The Blanket Drive was such a success last year that we are looking forward to doing something similar this year.   With the new school addition, we will need to make 10 new kits for new classrooms this fall. We are coming up with ideas of how to supply needed items for the new kits.  Some of the needed items will be more blankets, candy, first aid kits, games, rain ponchos and glow sticks to name a few.

more

We hope to do some kind of Emergency Preparedness drive to help supply these items.   We will be sending emails and offering ways to get volunteer hours to help assemble these kits before school starts next fall.  An inventory was done at the beginning of the year and all of the emergency bins that were missing items are now completely restocked.  Thanks again for your continuing support!

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT UPDATE

Thanks to a generous business grant, most Lincoln Academy students were able to participate in Junior Achievement programs this past year. Junior Achievement programs help prepare students for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs, use entrepreneurial thinking, and contribute to their community.

All Lincoln students in grades K - 5 had 5 JA workshops in class. The 6th graders were able to attend JA City in SLC on November 1. The 8th graders will participate in JA Finance Park in SLC on May 7. For more info about Junior Achievement, please see http://ja-utah.org/

FUNDRAISING FOR NEW COMPUTER LAB

Each Lincoln family has been asked to make a $35 donation this year to help fund the computer lab being built in the new Jr. High building.  Thanks to your generous donations we have raised about $6000 so far, including donations from about half of our families.  This is a great start, but we still have a long way to go!  The lab will cost about $25,000.  If you haven't made a donation yet, or can donate more at this time, please do so. You can send your donations in to the front office at school any time.  Put it in an envelope marked "Parent Council Computer Fund" or just pay in person.  Every donation will be greatly appreciated!

If your business would like to donate, please contact the front office or Kristina Brockbank at brockbankfamily@msn.com. Thanks so much.

WE PAY FOR A'S!

Thompson Orthodontics will donate $1 to our school for every A on your child's report card!  This is an easy way for us to earn money for our computer lab. Please take a minute today and send in a copy of your child's report card.  Every A counts!  You can email the report card, make a copy and mail it, or simply take a picture with your phone and email it that way.  Let's have all those great Lincoln report cards earn us money!  Send a picture of your report card to thompsonreportcards@gmail.com.

TARGET DONATIONS

If you have a Target Red Card, you can earn money for our school!  Please go to their website and link your card with Lincoln Academy.  Right now we only have 17 cards linked to our school, but they have earned us $160 so far this year.  It's quick and easy!  Please go to http://www.target.com/redcard/benefits-target-rewards, click on the "Take Charge of Education" logo and link your card today.  It only takes a minute.

BOX TOPS INFO

Thanks to all those who participated in the Box Top and Labels for Education competition.  Mr. Bingham’s class won again with over 1500.  Please keep sending in Box Tops and labels as we’ll continue to collect them throughout the remainder of the school year.  The money we get from Box Tops and labels buys recess equipment.
