FROM MR. HUNT

Dear Parents:
It was great seeing so many of you come in for re-enrollment.  Thank you for this effort.  We know that it takes a little time to do the survey and re-enroll.  However, the feedback we get from your participation is invaluable.  We will be addressing some of the concerns you brought up as well as providing you with some of the results. We appreciate you updating your contact list with us as well, and helping us organize our school better in case of an emergency through the sticker program. Here are some other things you need to know:

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Please put Feb 6th and 7th on your calendar as Parent-Teacher Conferences.  We will hold these meetings from 3:00-8:00 on Wednesday for elementary and Junior High and 3:00-6:00 on Thursday for just the elementary.  Elementary parents, please sign up for a time slot on the sign-up sheets which will be available starting Jan 29th at the front desk.  Junior High parents, please plan on a five-minute conference or less.  If your concerns are going to take longer than five minutes, please make an appointment to meet with the teacher at a different time.

Book Fair
Our book fair will be help during Parent-Teacher Conferences.

Jazz Reading Program
Our elementary grades are participating in the Jazz Reading program.  Our school has a goal of 550,000 minutes.  Please encourage your students to read each night.  If they reach their individual goals they get a raffle ticket and for each hour past their goals the get an additional ticket.  I've also promised the elementary 1 free dress day if they read 550,000 minutes, 3 free dress days if we finish in the top 10 of the state, and a whole week of free dress for the winning class if we finish in the top ten of the state.

Thank you for your continued support of Lincoln Academy.

-Jake Hunt

JAZZ READING CONTEST

The Jazz Reading Contest begins Friday, January 18th and runs through February 19th.  This year we want to make a SLAM DUNK WITH READING!  Elementary students have been challenged to read 550,000 combined minutes during the month long program.  That is less than an hour a day of reading per student!  We can do it!  Individual grades have the following challenges to meet each week:
K-2 - each students reads 5 hours a week
3-4 - each students reads 7 hours a week
5-6 - each student reads 9 hours a week

more

As students reach their weekly reading goals, they will earn a raffle ticket for the chance to win great prizes!  For every hour read above the weekly reading goal, students can earn an additional raffle ticket.  Raffle drawings will be held each Friday during the contest.  There are lots and lots of great prizes to win!

Each Monday students need to return a reading log signed by a parent to help us track our minutes.  If we rank in the top 10 schools in the state for reading minutes per student, we will win a visit from a Jazz player and ice cream for all students!

Remember that all reading done outside of the time the school bells ring will count for reading minutes.  That means you can read with your children and it will count for any child you are reading to, older siblings can read to younger siblings and it counts for both of them, etc.  We just can't count listening to books on tape.

It's cold outside - grab a book and read with your children!  Together we can all make a SLAM DUNK with reading!

BOX TOP COLLECTION CONTEST

It's Box Top collection time again! Our Winter contest will go through February 20th!  So start clipping and sending in those Box Tops. There are many products that are offering multiple Box Tops right now. Also, be sure to register at boxtops4education.com and put Lincoln Academy in as your school of choice.  When you sign up you can receive notices for sale items, coupons for Box Top items, recipes, and notifications for contests that could win our school thousands of dollars.

more

You can also access the Box Top Marketplace which features many of your favorite online retailers like WalMart, Target, Lands End, Aeropostale, Children's Place and many, many more. Each time you access and purchase at these sites through the Marketplace (just a few extra clicks) you earn E-box tops for our school. These really add up quickly and can make a huge difference in the amount of money we earn each year. So head on over and sign up!

When you order online through these retailers, write down the number of Box Tops earned with your child's name on them and put them in their classroom collections so they count towards the final classroom count. Our 2nd contest prize is a movie party for the elementary classroom that collects the most valid (non-expired) Box Tops, and a Free Dress Day for the Jr. High Homeroom that collects the most valid Box Tops!

Remember to trim your Box Tops and to check their expiration dates. Box Tops for Education will not accept any expired Box Tops, and they won't count for classroom totals. We were able to purchase some great recess equipment for the elementary classrooms and some sports uniforms last year with our Box Top money, so your donations go a long way.   We had our most successful Box Top collection ever in the fall; let's see if we can break that record again!

Thank you for your participation and let's keep on clippin' and sending those Box Tops in!
