FROM MR. HUNT

Dear Parents:
We had a fairly smooth first week of school. The first days are always exciting, fun, a little scary, and tiring. I think parents, teachers, and students all experience most of these feelings when it comes to starting school again. Meeting new families and seeing continuing families once again during the first week has been a nice change from the quieter summer months. Thank you for your continued support, words of encouragement, smiles, and waves.

Our carpool has run fairly smoothly. Remember if you are picking up in the back, once you have all your students you can move to the left and pass cars who are still waiting. Please remember that the speed limit on school grounds is 5 mph. Additionally, students are not to be picked up on the road.

If you have concerns that you would like to address with me, please make an appointment to come and see me. The front office will be able to assist you with this. Also, if you have attendance or discipline questions, those policies are found on our website.

Some important advice: Students work best when they are used to a routine. Start a routine now that includes time for homework, adequate sleep, and a good breakfast. It will make a difference throughout the year.

Thank you,

Jake Hunt, Principal

FALL CARNIVAL

Our Fall Carnival is Sept. 13 from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. It’s a fun activity that our kids look forward to every year.  A successful carnival needs lots and lots of volunteers! This is a very fun way to meet our wonderful Lincoln Academy community and get started on your volunteer hours. We need helpers for set up and clean up and many people to help with food and games during the carnival (you can choose to work a 2 or 4 hour shift). There are also a few do-ahead jobs that can be done at home.

Come spend an afternoon of fun with us, have some dinner and treats, and get a head start on your Christmas shopping at our silent auction! This year we have a blow-up obstacle course, a climbing wall, and a dunk tank, as well as many other fun games.  We'll be bringing back the very popular 4-wheeler train, the soda ring toss, and the "fish game". Unlimited game wristbands are just $5.

Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered.  We still need about 20 more people to help run games and food.  Contact Shamae Mickelson at 1spinach1@gmail.com if you are interested in helping.

SILENT AUCTION BASKET THEMES

Room moms will be providing collection baskets in each room for the Silent Auction at the Fall Carnival.  The junior high students can drop off donations in the foyer by the front office.  This is a great way to support the Parent Council and to bid on some very cool gift baskets.  Here is a list of basket themes.

We're also looking for people who will approach businesses for donations.  Here is a letter from Mr. Hunt to use for that purpose.

DOLLAR DRESS DAY

The Lincoln Academy Parent Council hosts Dollar Dress Days on the first Wednesday of each month. Students bring a dollar for the option to wear free dress. (Appropriate free dress can be found at the end of the uniform policy from the school website.) This free dress day is optional. Students are encouraged to earn their own dollar to pay for their free dress option.

We will be giving a hand stamp when the students pay their dollar and doing random stamp checks in the classrooms. We would like to have 2-3 volunteers come from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays to help with checks.

Please contact Zara Quintana (PC Treasurer) if you plan to volunteer with collections and hand stamps before school or from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.  801-735-9603 zarasbookkeeping@gmail.com.

SCHOOL SPIRIT WEAR

PARENT COUNCIL POSITION OPEN

We are looking for someone to fill our Academic Position on the Parent Council. This person coordinates the Spelling Bee, Geography Bee and Science Fair, works with the Teacher Liaison for each activity, manages the fee payments for all activities and coordinates and delegates assignments to parent volunteers. This is a great way to fulfill your volunteer hours, meet other parents and help make our school better. This is your chance to make a difference. RESTAURANT FUNDRAISER

The restaurant fundraiser is back this year. We kept a few of our favorites and added some new places as well.  September we are going to the students' favorite, Pizza Pie Cafe in Highland (in Kohler's parking lot).

The restaurant fundraiser is the first Tuesday this month due to the Fall Carnival being held the 2nd week.  Please join us at Pizza Pie Cafe Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday September 4-6th anytime from 11am to close.  Be sure to bring your fundraiser card with you and Lincoln will receive 25% of your purchase!!!

more

Don't forget to write your children's teachers' names in the box on the attached flyer to try to win your class a FREE DRESS DAY! The class with the most participants wins a free dress day and on occasion the restaurants give the class free lunch, too.  Flyers will come home with your student on Tuesday, September 4th (because Monday is Labor Day).

NOTE:  We won't always be on the 2nd Tuesday like last year due to some calendaring conflicts.

SCHOOL SPIRIT FRIDAYS

Every Friday is Spirit Dress Day. Students may wear their Lincoln Academy T-shirts from any year’s purchase along with their uniform pants. Just a reminder: all clothing worn to school must be in good condition and sized correctly.

When you sign up you can receive notices for sale items, coupons for box top items, recipes, and notifications for contests that could win our school thousands of dollars!

more

You can also access the Box Top Marketplace which features many of your favorite online retailers like WalMart, Target, Lands End, Aeropostale, Children's Place and many, many more. Each time you access and purchase at these sites through the Marketplace (just a few extra clicks) you earn E-box tops for our school. These really add up quickly and can make a huge difference in the amount of money we earn each year. So head on over and sign up!

Also, when you order online through these retailers, write down the number of box tops earned with your child's name on them and put them in their classroom collections so they count towards the final classroom count. Our first contest prize is a pizza party for the classroom that collects the most valid (non-expired) Box Tops! Start clipping and sending them in.

Remember to trim your box tops and to check their expiration date. Box Tops for Education will not accept any expired box tops, and they won't count for classroom totals. We were able to purchase some great recess equipment for the elementary classrooms and some sports uniforms last year with our Box Top money. Thank you for your support.
