FROM MR. HUNT
|
It is now October. Thank you for all that you have done to support the school and your students. Thanks for donating supplies to our classes, supplies for your children, participating in the carnival, driving on field trips, and signing up to help in the classroom. Your efforts help make our school better and afford a better education for your student. Thank you for everything! I am confident that as educators, parents and students work together, the quality of education increases.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
Thank you to all parents who came to parent/teacher conferences. There was a great turn-out in the elementary and a good one for junior high. If you missed parent/teacher conference, you can still set up an appointment to meet with your student's teacher or just communicate by email.
Mid-Term/9th Grade Graduation
Junior High parents should have received an email with their students' mid-term report last week. They are password protected. Just enter your students' ID number to open the document. We are implementing a 9th grade graduation in which 9th graders must pass all their core classes and most of their electives in order to qualify. We are looking at further implementing this throughout the entire junior high in the coming years. Please work with your ninth-grade students to help them remain eligible to attend graduation. If you did not receive a report for your junior high student, please contact the front office.
1st-3rd Grade Lunch
We are having problems with 1st through 3rd grade students using the microwaves. Many of the students using the microwave who are this age do not know how to use it, and we have had several who have burned themselves in the process of using the microwave. Due to inexperience and complications, the lines for the microwaves are extremely long during this lunch. Please help us by limiting what you send with your 1st-3rd graders.

FALL FESTIVAL THANK YOU
|
A big thank you to all of the Lincoln families who attended and supported this year's Fall Festival/carnival. We enjoyed some delicious food, socializing, and games for the students. It was a wonderful event that was not only lots of fun, but successful in earning funds for our school! We really appreciate all of you who donated auction items or purchased tickets and auction items. Mrs. Jackson's class donated the most item for the auction, with kind help from her room mom, Gaylene Syme. Special thanks go to Kuulei Giffin and Zara Quintana for all of their planning and hard work and to all of their committee members who contributed their time and effort to this event. And a special thanks to Kohls, who really stepped up to help!

As part of the Fall Freedom Festival held on Friday, September 17, "Constitution Day", the food and frolic also included a Constitution Quiz to test the participant's knowledge of United States history. The Quiz consisted of 20 regular questions plus two extra or tie-breaker questions. It included notes on qualifications to be President, procedures for creating laws, quotes from Founding Fathers and on identifying particular Founders. The Constitution Quiz seemed to indicate that Lincoln's families should become a lot more acquainted with American history and the Founding Document. The test scores ranged from just two wrong to 19 out of the 22 questions wrong. Many were in the range of 10 to 15 incorrect answers. The first prize was a framed reproduction of a painting of the signing of the Constitution. The second prize was a hand-finished beach blanket embellished with the Stars and Stripes that came in its own handmade carrying bag. The third prize was a framed reproduction of the Constitution itself. The first prize winner was parent Carlton Bowen. The second prize winner was student Joshua Healey, and the third prize winner was parent Brad Gale. Here is a copy of the Constitution quiz which you can take. The correct answers will be included with the next newsletter.

HALLOWEEN COSTUME GUIDELINES
|
Many parents are starting to look for Halloween costumes. Lincoln Academy is always concerned about your child's safety. Halloween presents some additional dangers. The school's guidelines for Halloween are first and foremost that you make sure your child can still play and move around in his or her costume safely. In addition, the following regulations will be in place for all costumes:
more
- No masks.
- No weapons.
- No cross-dressing.
- No costumes that demean or belittle ethnic groups, nationalities, or religions.
- Costumes must be modest.
- Students must be able to be identified.
If your student chooses not to dress in an obvious costume on this day, he or she must be in uniform. Non-uniform, "normal" clothes do not constitute a costume. If your student doesn't follow these regulations and guidelines, he or she will be asked to change costumes or be in uniform. Students will be allowed to come to school dressed in their costume on Friday, Oct 29th and wear their costumes the whole day.
