PARENT -TEACHER CONFERENCES

Parent-Teacher Conferences are being held Feb. 7th for Jr. High from 3-8 pm in the gym and Feb. 7th and 8th from 3-8 pm for Elementary students.  Sign up in the front office for a time to meet with your Elementary student’s teacher.

Junior High parents if you think that your conversation with your Junior High teachers is going to last more than five minutes, please make an appointment with your teacher.  The purpose of a parent teacher conference on Tuesday night is to get a short update of how your student is doing and share some insight about how the teacher or parent can help the student do better.

TESTING FOR 5TH AND 8TH GRADERS

If you have a 5th or 8th grader, they will be administered the DWA (Direct Writing Assessment).  All of our teachers have been working hard to help them prepare for this test.  You can help by making sure your student has a good night’s rest and breakfast.  The dates will be as follows:

8th Grade: B1 & B2 English - Feb. 23; A4 English - Feb. 24.
5th Grade:  Goodey - Feb 29; Jackson - Feb 29; Mecham -March 1st.

CARPOOL REMINDER

We have noticed that on occasion parents don't come to a complete stop when dropping off students in the morning.  Please make sure you come to a complete stop.  Last week we had a student jump out of a van while it was still pulling forward and roll on the ground.  This obviously could be a very dangerous situation.

Also please remember that the speed limit on school grounds is 5 mph.  Thanks for helping us keep your students safe.

RESTAURANT FUNDRAISER

Back by popular demand, we're heading to Pizza Pie Cafe in Highland for February's restaurant fundraiser!  It's located in Kohler's parking lot in Highland.  Come anytime Tuesday-Thursday, February 14-16th for lunch, after-school meal or dinner and Lincoln gets 25% of your bill.

more

Your child will bring home a fundraiser card attached to a flyer on Monday, February 13th. Please be sure to bring the card and flyer with you to the restaurant to qualify for the fundraiser. Don't forget to write your teachers' names on the form to try and win a free dress day for your class!

VOLUNTEER NEEDS

Parents, we are looking for volunteers in the following areas.   (These items are also listed on the “Volunteer Needs” link on Lincoln Academy’s website. Please check this link regularly to learn of additional ways that you can help and support our school!)

more

-The Spanish Committee needs help with Spanish activities and planning all throughout the school year. Some of the work can be done at home. We would like as many volunteers as possible.

-Research interactive websites to use in classrooms.  This is a project that can be done from home.  We would like as many volunteers as possible.

-Organize and label kitchen cupboards in FACS kitchen for 1 hour on Feb. 28.  1 to 2 volunteers are needed.

-Help with scorekeeping and scoreboard at home basketball games on Feb. 9, 16, from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. 1 to 2 volunteers are needed.

If you are interested in helping with any of these needs, please contact Stephanie Kinkade at 801-756-2039, or at kinkade@lincoln-academy.org

JAZZ READING CONTEST

We are almost halfway through the Jazz Reading Contest and our students are doing a fantastic job.  Students have been asked to reach the following grade level goals each week:
K-2  4 hours a week
3-4   6 1/2 hours a week
5-6   9 hours a week

more

When a student reaches their weekly goal, they are eligible to enter a raffle.  For each additional hour read over the weekly grade level goal, the student can enter the raffle again.  There are many great prizes to win including passes to Boondocks Fun Center, Classic Fun Center, Peaks Ice Arena, the Space Center, and more!  More reading = more chances to win.  Please encourage your students to read.  The contest goes through February 21st.  It is important that parents sign the reading minutes each week before they are turned into the teacher every Monday morning.  If we are one of the top 10 schools in Utah in reading minutes we will have a visit from a Jazz player and win ice cream for the entire elementary school!

If your business would like to donate prizes for our raffle, please contact Kristina Brockbank at Brockbankfamily@msn.com.

TEACHER SPONSORS - THANK YOU!

Mrs. Roberts' class would like to thank Brad and Jennifer Wilson for
their generous donation. We were able to purchase Painted Lady
Butterfly larvae kits and watch the complete life cycle of a
butterfly. Some of our funds were also used in our Greek feast and
Olympics celebration. We look forward to adding to our classroom
library and going to the play Beauty and the Beast. Brad and Jennifer not only support our class financially, they also support our class with their time by helping with Junior Achievement, celebrations, and parties. Thank you so much!

Mr. Roberts' 6th Class

more

Our library sponsor this year is the Jensen family.  We would love to thank them for their support of schoolwide literacy through their donation.  These funds have been instrumental in helping us purchase fact-based books on world wars, geography and science aimed at engaging reluctant readers at all grade levels.   Thank you Jensen family!

Pam Mellor, Librarian

It has been such a pleasure to have the Knight’s as our sponsor this year. We have attended a field trip and hope to attend more. Due to their generosity we have been able to purchase supplies for our hands on activities. We experimented with water, and will find the properties of matter, and experiment with magnets and electricity. Their funds have also provided us with many incentives for our class store. We appreciate them and their kindness! Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Knight!

Mrs. DeOliveira's class

Mrs. Beck’s class is so thankful to have Staci Hardy as our classroom sponsor this year!  Because of her generosity we have been able to do some great hands on activities in the classroom that we wouldn’t have been able to do without her- this week we made Egyptian death masks! Those funds have also gone towards our classroom store that the students work hard to earn money for. Having the store is so helpful because students want to stay on task and get their work in on time to earn their money.  We are also going on several field trips thanks to
Staci’s donation.  One of the class favorites is the Space Center,
which we will be going to next week.  Thank you for being so generous and sponsoring our class!

Mrs. Beck's Class

Our sponsors are the DeGroff's who are new to Lincoln this year. Our class is grateful for their sponsorship because we will be able to attend "Beauty and The Beast" at Lone Peak which goes along with our Fairy Tale unit.  We will also be attending the Planetarium in February.  We are able to subscribe to the monthly Scholastic News for Kids which we love reading because it has such cool stories in it. Mrs. D'Haenens has been able to buy books, art supplies, and new games for rainy days because of their generous donation. We so appreciate the DeGroff's for their sponsorship of our 3rd grade class this year.

LOCKS AND LOCKS OF LOVE

Yes, it’s true!  We are having our annual donation of hair to Locks of Love.  If you, your daughter or someone you know has at least 8 inches of hair and is willing to donate it, please fill out the form that you can pick up at the front office by Feb. 13th.  We will be holding an assembly on Thursday, Feb. 16th at 1:30 p.m. for the school to watch you get your haircut.  If you have any questions please contact Stephanie Kinkade at (801) 756-2039.

MACEY'S SCHOOL CENTS

Our School Cents program is ending Friday February 10th.  Macey’s is discontinuing the program.  We have the opportunity to turn in all of our remaining Macey’s receipts.  Please, please collect all of your receipts and turn them into the bin by Mrs. North’s desk at the front office.  Every little bit helps and we appreciate your participation in this program.  The school with the highest total will receive $350, second highest will receive $250 and the remaining 7 schools will each receive $200.
