FROM MR. HUNT
|
|
Dear Parents:
We had a fairly smooth first two weeks of school. The first days are always exciting, fun, a little scary, and tiring. I think parents, teachers, and students all experience most of these feelings when it comes to starting school again. Meeting new families and seeing continuing families once again during the first week has been a nice change from the quieter summer months. Thank you for your continued support, words of encouragement, smiles, and waves.
more
Our carpool has run fairly smoothly. Remember if you are picking up in the back, once you have all your students you can move to the left and pass cars who are still waiting. Please remember that the speed limit on school grounds is 5 mph. Also, please do not make a left hand turn into the main parking lot when dropping or picking students up in the front of the school. This is a request via Pleasant Grove Police. Additionally, students are not to be picked up on the road. This causes additional traffic concerns where through traffic has to cross lanes to get around parked cars.
If you have concerns that you would like to address with me, please make an appointment to come and see me. The front office will be able to assist you with this. Also, if you have attendance or discipline questions, those policies are found on our website.
Some important advice: Students work best when they are used to a routine. Start a routine now that includes time for homework, adequate sleep, and a good breakfast. It will make a difference throughout the year.
TWO ITEMS FOR JUNIOR HIGH FAMILIES:
BYOD UPDATE
We started the first day with an introduction to online quizzing which gives all students the ability to respond to questions. We also introduced Schoology- a website that allows students to communicate with classmates and the teacher as well as view upcoming assignments and download them if needed. We spent the next two homerooms trying to get students registered for their classes in Schoology.
Many students were able to register for all or most of their classes in Schoology. We are continuing to work on this during homeroom time. We will try to assist those who are not completely registered in the coming days.
As a parent you can also have a Schoology account. This account will show you the conversations that are taking place in your student’s class as well as the upcoming assignments. It is a great tool to be able to help your student. To register for Schoology as a parent you will need an access code that is specific to your student. We are planning on getting all students registered by Friday, September 10th and will have all access codes available then. Please call the office to get your student's code. I am also in the process of creating a short tutorial on how to register for Schoology for parents.
Last week during homeroom students were put into groups and are creating a video as a group using portable devices. The classroom competition for best homeroom video is underway and many students are excited about this.
I have seen many teachers using these devices in class effectively, and we are working each week to find ways to better incorporate them into our culture and curriculum here at the school. I look forward to even more creative and fun ways that we will use these devices in the future.
GRADUATION
We introduced graduation requirements for all Junior High students. These are requirements that must be met to participate in graduation for 9th grade students at Lincoln Academy. Similar to high school graduation requirements, students must obtain a certain amount of credits in different core subjects and electives in order to graduate. The requirements are posted on our website under parent and student information. If you have specific questions feel free to talk with Mrs. Jones.
I look forward to great weeks in the future. Thank you for making Lincoln Academy your school of choice.

VOLUNTEER
|
|
We love our parents at Lincoln Academy! Our school is so wonderful, largely due to our awesome parent volunteers! We would love to help you find assignments and make a plan for putting your annual 40 volunteer hours in at the school. (Just a reminder that 25 of these hours need to be earned by the re-enrollment period in early January.)
We have so many varied ways to help - weekend projects for working parents, projects that can be completed at home for parents with young children or other special needs, etc. Please contact Bethany Anderson at (801)763-0335 or at anderson.bethany@yahoo.com if you have any questions, or are interested in volunteering with the projects at Lincoln Academy.
more
Here are some of our current volunteer needs: Fall Festival, September 15, volunteers are needed to set-up beginning at 2:45. We have shifts that are available between 4:00 and 7:30 and would love to have your help with games, food, and driving 4-wheelers. Many other additional volunteer opportunities are available and can be found at Lincoln Academy's website under the Volunteer Needs section.

SCHOOL T-SHIRTS
|
|
If you still need a Lincoln t-shirt, they will be for sale at the Fall Festival, or call or e-mail Carol Bailey. 801-756-2830 or casbailey@msn.com There are only a couple of shirts per size left, so hurry to get yours! Also, if you would like a previous year's shirt, there are some leftover. This year's shirt is $12 and past year's shirts are $7 each. The t-shirts can be worn to school every Friday. Hoodie jackets will be for sale soon.
more
Also, we would like to thank Swivelhead Design Works for creating our t-shirt logo! They came up with several designs that we will be able to use in future years. One thing families at Lincoln (adults and kids) can do to thank them is to "like" their page on Facebook. If you are on Facebook, search "Swivelhead Design Works" or go to this link and hit the "like" button. Such a simple thing to do to thank them for some great donated logos! An order was turned in to the office without a name on it. If you ordered 3 shirts, an AS white t-shirt, an AM navy t-shirt and a YL navy girls-cut t-shirt, call Carol Bailey. Another clue is that this person talked to Carol at back-to-school night and the YL logo was crooked, so Carol wrote on the order to make sure that it was straight.

RESTAURANT FUNDRAISER NIGHT
|
|
We're starting a new year, and starting our monthly restaurant fundraiser again. We made nearly $2000 in our inaugural year! Thanks to all of you who supported these events. We were able to use the money to purchase more smart boards for our school. We've changed this year's restaurant fundraiser date to the 2nd Tuesday* of each month (*except for in September with the Fall Carnival that 2nd week, we changed it to the 3rd Tuesday just for this month).
more
Monday, September 19th, we'll have the Chick-fil-A cow visiting the school at lunchtime. That day, your student will be coming home with a Chick-fil-A fundraiser paper. Please bring this form with you to the restaurant on Tuesday, September 20th - our first Restaurant Fundraiser Night for this school year. There is a spot on the form for you to write your child's teacher's name on the front. If you have more than one child at Lincoln, feel free to write each child's homeroom teacher in the spot on one form - and we'll credit each child's class. The class with the best #s will earn a free dress day! And as a bonus, Chick-fil-A is also awarding the same winning class with a free lunch in class with the cow at a future date.
Come Tuesday, September 20th, to Chick-fil-A in American Fork (near Kohl's) anytime between 5pm-10pm and they will donate 20% of sales back to our school! What a yummy way to support our school!
