June 1 – Restaurant Fundraiser at AF Rubio’s

FROM MR. HUNT

Restaurant Fund Raiser Thank You
A huge thanks to all the families that have supported the restaurant fundraiser.  We are able to purchase two interactive whiteboards to put in classrooms next year. They will be installed this summer and ready for next fall! These boards allow touch interaction for teachers and students.  It is a great tool for teachers and student engagement.  Your money was also able to go further because of a generous donation from Jeremy Anderson and Audio Enhancement. They arranged for the installation of the boards to be donated.  I feel this is a great example of families and businesses working together to help improve student learning.

Last Day of School
The last day of school is Friday May 27th. It is a Free Dress day as well as a short day. Parents, please pick up your students at 12:30 PM.

Summer Classes/Camps
Just a reminder that we are offering summer classes. If you have a junior high student that has struggled in math we have summer school that can help them make up some of their grades. Additionally, we have summer camps that are available. If you have questions or would like to sign up, please contact Carol Bilbro by phone or email: bilbro@lincoln-academy.org

Summer Education
I find that students who continue to do some educational work over the summer will perform better the next year. Parents can do a lot at home during the summer to help students prepare for the next year. Daily reading and math facts can do a lot to help students. Additionally, parents can continue to use our online subscription to Lexia throughout the summer to help students become better readers. Plan now for an hour of educational work a day, which can go a long way to help your student succeed next year.
I hope you all have a safe, fun summer. I look forward to another great year next year where we can all continue to help students grow and succeed.

Thanks,
Mr. Hunt, Principal

We are also looking for drivers for the 9th grade Lagoon Day on May 26th. You will need to drive the students there in the morning and stay the day with them to supervise from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Please contact Bernice Pratt at pratts009@hotmail.com or 801-756-1439.

FREE UNIFORM SUPPLY

As the year draws to a close we would like to remind Lincoln families that donating gently used uniforms to the school surplus is greatly appreciated!  There were many families that took advantage of this benefit throughout the year as well as many students who, in need of a pair of pants or a shirt during school hours, borrowed out of the supply so a parent didn't have to make an extra trip to the school.   Once again, if you have any uniforms, coats, or shoes that are gently used that you would like to donate to the school we would love to have them! All donations can be dropped off at the office. The uniform surplus is available during school hours until the last day of school. It will be closed during June and July but will reopen in August just in time for school clothes shopping for the new school year!

RESTAURANT FUNDRAISER REVIEW

The Restaurant Fundraiser has been a good success in its inaugural year!  We've earned approximately $2000 for our school's technology.  We have purchased two interactive whiteboards that will be installed this summer and ready for use in the fall.  Teachers are so excited to have this coming to their classes!  Thanks to all of you who supported our restaurant fundraisers!  It's been a lot of fun to see so many of you!

more

Even though this school year is coming to a close, we thought it'd be fun to have one more restaurant fundraiser day right after school gets out so students can see their friends again.  We'll be meeting on Wednesday, June 1st (the usual 1st Tuesday doesn't work with the restaurant) at Rubio's in American Fork (near Target).  We'll be sending home a restaurant flyer the last week of school (flyer is required for school donation).  Look for emails as the date draws closer.

Later this month we'll have thank you posters for each of our participating restaurants.  The kids can sign their names during an upcoming lunch date.

After that June fundraiser date, we'll take a break for July and August, and we'll resume it in September!

END OF YEAR READ-A-THON!

Pull your books out and get ready for the last week of school Read-A-Thon!  Tuesday, May 24th is our in- class reading day for grades 1st-6th.  Note: The library will be closed for the year, so don't forget to bring a few books and your favorite pillow.

Don't forget to make reading a part of your daily summer routine!

BUSINESS SPONSOR SPOTLIGHTS

LITTLE CAESARS
How can I thank Little Caesars adequately for sponsoring “The King and I”? There is no way! Their generosity and support allowed it to happen! It gave me the ability to take the play to the visual heights we reached. Because of their donations, the play looked as amazing as it did! We were able to design the costumes so that each student felt that their costume was the best one on stage! What an accomplishment and gift! We were able to dress the set with little extras and details to help transport the audience to Siam. SINCERE thanks to Little Caesars from my cast, me, and everyone who saw the play! THANK YOU!!!!!

RUBY RIVER
Because Ruby River was so kind to adopt our Drama class, we were able to accomplish so much! We were able to purchase amazing puppets for our "Vocal Unit" that puts on puppet shows for the elementary students. We were also able to purchase items that not only benefit the drama class, but we were also able to use these things for “The King and I” as well, giving them multiple uses and benefiting so many students! We were able to buy tech equipment, like fire wires, for our movie making unit. THANK YOU SO MUCH, RUBY RIVER!! With out your support, there is no way our class could have done the activities we did this year they way we did them! Thank you!!

HUGGARDS
We were given a surprise gift of 2 Flip Cameras for our GOTV reporters! Our biggest problem in our Broadcasting Journalism class is the technology. The combination of different technological generations have created compatibility issues forcing the students to troubleshoot and be very patient as they learn in class. Then we got this surprise and the students LITERALLY rejoiced! I showed them the cameras donated to our class and they burst out laughing and dancing around the classroom! One student put on the Hallelujah Chorus on speaker and they danced around the room holding the cameras and cords like they were precious jewels! (Yes, we filmed it for posterity!) You don't get appreciation like that, from Jr. High students every day! THANK YOU SO MUCH for making our lives easier and more efficient!!!
