FROM MR. HUNT
|
|
Parents: The year is drawing to a close, and we are completing the tasks that are required by the state as well as holding some of our traditional events. I’d like to share a few of these with you.
Academic Testing CRTs are scheduled to begin April 25th and will go through most of the first part of May. This is a required set of tests that measures student academic comprehension and understanding. CRTs are attached to federal and state funds for our school. They also report how well students are doing relative to a pre-determined performance level on a specified set of educational goals or outcomes included in the school, district, or state curriculum.
more
This year we will be assessing all students using computers. Your teachers can let you know when your student testing will be.
Please do the following items to help your student succeed: 1) Make sure they are at school when they are scheduled to be tested. All students are required by law to take the CRTs--there are few exceptions. Therefore, all students must be in attendance at the time of the CRTs or schedule a make up time during a very limited window of opportunity. 2) Review the document I have sent twice about helping students prepare for the CRT's. 3) Please take the opportunity as parents to discuss with your students the essentials of doing their very best and not rushing through the questions. It is important for them to attempt to honestly do their best in answering the questions. Carelessness or indifference only hurts the school along with the student’s academic achievement. 4) Please review good test taking strategies with your students. Our teachers will do the same here at the school. 5) Make sure your students get a good night’s rest and have a good breakfast every morning before testing.
National Junior Honors Society Induction Ceremony Students who applied for and were accepted into the National Junior Honors Society will have their induction ceremony on Wednesday, April 20th. Invitations should be coming soon to those students who were accepted.

MESSAGE FROM ENROLLMENT
|
|
Parents:
Teachers, parents and administration work diligently to continue to provide a great educational experience and safe environment for all of our students here at Lincoln Academy. We are grateful for the opportunity to be partners with parents in this endeavor. We have processed our lottery and have extensive waiting lists for most grades which is very exciting and shows what a great school we have. If you have decided that your students will not be returning to Lincoln for the 2011-2012 school year, please notify Josephine North at the front desk as soon as possible.
more
Please record all volunteer hours in the box at the front desk or feel free to email north@lincoln-academy.org with a record of your hours and they will be recorded for you. Continued sibling preference is dependent upon completion of 40 volunteer hours. If you are in need of volunteer hours, you may refer to the volunteer opportunities listed online at the school website at www.lincoln-academy.org under the Volunteer link.

THE KING AND I GETTING TO KNOW YOU

We want to thank everyone for supporting our recent production of “The King and I”. We had so many families contribute props, support us in our fundraising efforts and come watch the play. It was a definite example of the amazing synergy of the families at Lincoln Academy. Thank you so much!

The play was an incredibly successful production because it was such a “Getting to Know You” experience! · The cast members got to know how to perform so that the audience becomes emotionally involved in the show. · The cast members got to know more about the culture and history of Siam (now Thailand). · The cast members got to know each other and make new friends. · The cast members got to know how to accept critique and make improvements. · The parent volunteers got to know what dedication and diligent hard work is involved in preparing such a high-quality production. · The performers and audience got to know better a beautiful Broadway musical. · The community got to know that Lincoln Academy gives its best efforts to whatever it does. · The directors and cast members got to know how to dig deep within and reach for the best that was in them – to REACH THE STARS (our school song). · Et cetera · Et cetera. · Et cetera!

BUSINESS SPONSOR SPOTLIGHTS
|
|
Mrs. D’Haenens Mrs. D’Haenens says of her sponsors, “Our amazing sponsors are Matt and Emily Walbruch. Because of their wonderful generosity, we've been able to do several things. We've been to see "A Christmas Carol' at the Hale Center Theater. We attended the Planetarium in Salt Lake. Next month we will be attending "Beauty and the Beast" at the Covey Center for the Arts. I was able to subscribe to Scholastic Magazine. This is a wonderful magazine for children that has current news articles that the children love to read. I bought some more books for our class library, and clay and basket supplies for art. I've also used their donation to buy hands-on items for science like dry ice to make a comet, string to make a sun string art, feathers for our upcoming unit on birds and various other items for our science related units. We appreciate so much the Walbruchs for their generous donation to our 3rd grade class.

K-6 Reading Program The K-6th reading program would like to thank Neways for their generous donation towards our shared reading program. Chris and Dorraine Crump made this donation possible. With the money that they donated, we were able to purchase classroom sets of novels for two grades and additional picture books for the upper grade shared reading. Neways has donated towards our reading program for several years. Thank you so much. We appreciate your continued support. The K-6th reading program would also like to thank R&R Realty and Michael Rowbury for their kind donation towards our shared reading program. Because of their donation we were able to purchase additional big books for our younger grades to use during shared reading. Big books make it possible for the whole class to enjoy a picture book together.
Jr. High Music Program The music department is so grateful to their sponsors, Jean and Julie Shoaee of ReMax Results. We have been able to purchase a new drum set with our sponsor money, and we have already started using it. This will greatly help our program, especially since we are adding Jazz Band to our schedule. This also provides an opportunity for the students to learn how to play drums on a good drum set. Thanks again to our sponsors.
Jr. High Art Program The art program wants to thank the Branhams and the Barker Cattle Co. for their generous donation to our class funds. This year we used our business partner funds to replenish many of our old and worn out supplies. We also used our funds to purchase clay for an animal rattle sculpture project. Since we don’t have a kiln at the school, we took the rattles to Patty’s Ceramics to have them fired. This was such a great experience for the students because it allowed them access to resources that we don’t have available in the classroom. It also helped them better understand the process of creating and firing a ceramic piece.
Jr. High Photography A special thanks goes out to Vivint (formerly APX Alarm) for their very charitable donation to Lincoln Academy’s photography class this year. This class is a relatively new addition to the art program, and for that reason, we were in need of some rather costly equipment to help demonstrate concepts, practice technique, and photograph student work/activity. Vivint’s denotation went a long way but a new digital SLR camera and memory card readers were among the more exciting items we purchased for the program. Thank you again, Vivint! We couldn’t have done it without you!
CTE, German, and Graphic Arts Mr. Proetel would like to thank Clark and Mindy Ashby for sponsoring his CTE, German and Graphic Arts programs. Their contribution has allowed him to make purchases which he couldn’t have done without their generous funds. It has made learning for the students in his classes more exciting and fun. We really appreciate your help and support.
Jr. High PE The Physical Education program is very thankful to have Tim and Hilary Weeks for their sponsor. We have been able to replace and add a lot of equipment with the help of their donation. New volleyballs, futsals, basketballs and yoga mats created quite the excitement among our students.
